Congratulations! 797 trees sets the Guinness World Record
The largest display of illuminated Christmas trees consists of 797 trees, and was achieved by Mason County (USA) in Shelton, Washington, USA, on 7 December 2019
Last December Shelton took the Hallmark Channel head on. Historically known as the “Christmas Tree Capital of the World,” Shelton and Mason County celebrated this distinction with an attempt at the Guinness World Record for “Most Lit Christmas Trees” in one location. The current record was set by Hallmark in 2015 when they lit 559 trees in a New York park.
Shelton’s attempt was logged December 7th during the annual parade. The 800+ trees were arranged in a lighted maze that families can explore along with Santa visits, hot chocolate, apple cider, food, caroling, gingerbread house contests, live music, gift workshops, and vendors at the “12 Days of Christmas” with an all new Christmastown Market. During the community Christmas Parade, local Judge Greer and Chief of Police Moody were led through the maze where they examined each tree for height and adequate lighting. The count took approximately 32 minutes. 797 of 802 trees counted were deeper appropriate for the record. Public was then allowed in lit maze. Approximately 2500 people visited the maze that evening.
Trees were donated to families in need or purchased with a donation. The Christmastown tree maze and tree donations raised $2600.74. Many families enjoyed visiting the maze and organizers were pleased to distribute the trees in the local community. The funds were presented to the Kristmas Town Kiwanis for local dispersement including the annual “Food for Tots” Food Drive and the "Toys for Tots” program.
The event was organized by NW Event Organizers partnering with Shelton Mason Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the City of Shelton, PUD 3, Mason County, and Kristmas Town Kiwanis. Thanks goes out to the many dozens of sponsors and volunteers who dedicated time and finances during the busy holiday season to support this event.
